At last the Club was becoming more than a dream, and endowed with about £200 from the U.S.F £16 balance from the Association £25 grant from the Local Welfare Committee, and a gift of £120 for the purchase of a Billiard Table from Mr. D. Charsley, in memory of his brother, Major Charsley, killed in Action, and the renting of premises at the rear of the Victoria Hotel in Beach street, everything promised successful life the only snag being there could be no licensed Bar,because the Club House was under the same ownership Tomson & Wottons Brewers , as the Victoria Hotel. This Club House formerly a Masonic Temple, consisted of upstairs one large room (Billiard Room) and down stairs a smaller room. (Office)Furniture purchased given or loaned, found their places in the rooms and with all optimism the Club opened in February 1922. By this time Mr E.Burley was Asst Hon. Secretary to Hon. Secretary, H.W. Lucy and found delight in the enthusiasm of the Members, despite their surveillance by the very zealous House Committee of Senior Ex-Officers to ensure exemplary conduct, and no gambling. This supervision was slowly whittled down, these well meaning officers with smiling eyes, and whimsical, blended with the ordinary member, mixed well with all friendliness, and often quietly assisted those in poor circumstances.

Besides the concert Series, Whist Drives, Smoking Concerts, Billiards, Handicaps Lantern Lectures, Walking

Matches, Swimming, Gymnastics and Bus Outings. A Sports Committee and a Library were set up. By May 1922. There were 116 paid up members, but it was regarded that 250 members and a bar were necessary to make the Club a going concern.

Mr.E.Burley was one of a Sub-Committee deputed to interview Mr. Charlie Fox, the Licensee of the Victoria Hotel, to obtain his consent to a Bar. The consent was obtained on a 50% profit sharing basis. By July,I922. the Bar was going strong over a counter built and constructed by Members,  Mr. Nicholas was appointed Bar Steward, as well as a cleaner at twenty-five shillings a week.

In October, I922, on Trades Holiday, the first of the Club’s Annual Outings took place on a bus with solid wheels. October 18th, 1922. A new member, Mr Bert Tickner. Who by I924 was on the Committee.
